Keely Buchanan, Founder

Keely Buchanan is the owner of Colorado Educational Consulting (formerly Preparing for Denver Kindergarten) and is passionate about connecting parents with resources and data about public and private Preschool, Kindergarten, Elementary, Middle, and High School.

While researching options for public and private Preschool for her oldest child, she realized that the process is overwhelming at best. And, when the time came to plan for Kindergarten, even more so. Preparing for Denver Kindergarten was created in 2015 because parents don't know what they don't know, and a large knowledge gap exists for parents new to a public or private school system.

It became clear to her that no one was taking a step back and considering this process from a parent’s holistic experience. So, she decided to do just that, asking herself, “What do parents new to a district need to know?” and “How can I help turn anxiety into excitement?” She channeled her Corporate background in training, communications, engagement, curriculum development, design, and research and started by designing group classes for parents in her position: who had lots of questions, but few answers, and didn’t know where to start.

She added private consultations; private group classes for parents, Private Preschools, and Real Estate professionals; partnerships with public school departments, public and private schools, CO and Denver area educational nonprofits; and Educational Assessment professionals. And, in 2019, she expanded to cover Middle and High School, as well.

Keely has become an expert in supporting families relocating to Colorado, moving within Colorado, divorcing, and with gifted, disabled, and/or twice exceptional (2e) children.

Keely sits on the Board for the Forgotten Adoption Option (a nonprofit designed to help find forever families for the 100,000 children waiting in Foster Care) and the Woman in Cable Telecommunications (WICT) Network Rocky Mountain (RM) Board of Directors, and she established the WICT RM Middle and High School Student Outreach program.

Keely is a Professional Member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA). She holds a Certificate of Leadership and a Certificate of Management Excellence from the American Management Association (AMA), and a Training Manager Specialty Certification from Langevin Learning.

An alumnus of the University of Denver (DU), Keely earned her BA in Digital Media Studies, graduating Magna Cum Laude and with Departmental Honors. She is working towards her Master's Degree (MPS) from her Alma Mater.

Keely resides in Denver with her two 2e kiddos; tours a LOT of schools; meets with a LOT of school and community leaders; and supports WICT Rocky Mountain, REVEL, Colorado Public Radio, Rocky Mountain PBS, The Denver Hospice, Foster Love, and Planned Parenthood.
