Keely Buchanan, Founder
Keely Buchanan is the owner of Colorado Educational Consulting (formerly Preparing for Denver Kindergarten) and is passionate about connecting parents with resources and data about public and private Preschool, Kindergarten, Elementary, Middle, and High School.
While researching options for public and private Preschool for her oldest son, she realized that the process is overwhelming at best. And, when the time came to plan for Kindergarten, even more so. Preparing for Denver Kindergarten was created in 2015 because parents don't know what they don't know, and a large knowledge gap exists for parents new to a public school system.
It became clear to her that no one was taking a step back and considering this process from a parent’s holistic experience. So, she decided to do just that, asking herself, “What do parents new to a district need to know?” and “How can I help turn anxiety into excitement?” She channeled her Corporate background in training, communications, engagement, curriculum development, design, and research and started by designing group classes for parents in her position - who had lots of questions, but few answers, and didn’t know where to start.
She added private consultations; private group classes for parents, Private Preschools, and Real Estate professionals; and partnerships with public school departments, public and private schools, CO and Denver area educational nonprofits; and Educational Assessment professionals. And, in 2019, she expanded to cover Middle and High School, as well.
Keely sits on the Board for the Forgotten Adoption Option (a nonprofit designed to help find forever families for the 100,000 children waiting in Foster Care) and the Woman in Cable Telecommunications (WICT) Network Rocky Mountain (RM) Board of Directors, and she established the WICT RM Middle and High School Student Outreach program.
An alumnus of the University of Denver (DU), Keely earned her BA in Digital Media Studies, graduating Magna Cum Laude and with Departmental Honors. She is working towards her Master's Degree (MPS) from her Alma Mater.
Keely resides in Denver with her two sons, tours a LOT of schools, meets with a LOT of school and community leaders, and volunteers for WICT, Denver Public Schools, Denver Hospice, and STEMblazers.
She also partners with Reschool Colorado, Developmental Disabilities Resource Center Family Support Services (Jefferson, Clear Creek, Gilpin and Summit counties - more info here), Rocky Mountain Human Services Family Support funding (Adams, Arapahoe, Denver, Douglas, and Elbert counties - more info here), and Developmental Pathways (Littleton, Englewood, Sheridan, Douglas, Cherry Creek, Aurora - more info here).
